How to use up old oils - Make a natural wood polish

A quick formula to use up old, but not rancid carrier oils for a naturally cleaner home.

In this series we are providing you with super simple formulations without filler and fluff.

Today we are bringing a simple formula for a wood polish for which we are using out of date carrier oils. Sorry, no skincare this time :).

I love natural wood in my home, and I have wood furniture, shelves, cladding all over the house. When I have time, I like to whip up my own cleaning products. I always have many different oils in my stash, so I quickly selected a few that were out of date to make a simple wood polish for my kitchen shelves. I always keep an eye on those, since the cooking steam and heat can dry them out.

The shelves in this part of the kitchen are stained only and they do get a lot of heat and steam from cooking.

Let’s do this. If your oil is out of date but not rancid, this formula is a winner: You don’t waste your ingredients and you have a natural cleaning product.

* Be careful when using essential oils if you have pets in the house. Also, make sure you don’t use oils that can stain the wood such as carrot oil.

HOW TO USE

Use this polish just like any other wood polish. Apply a small amount using a lint-free cloth and work it into the wood while using circular motions. Buff it up with a clean cloth, always go with the grain. Use it sparingly to avoid product buildup.

Disclaimer: Always test your product on the wood in an area out of sight to make sure it is compatible.

My avocado and coconut wood polish.

Beeswax is wonderful for wood and it goes well with the sweet orange scent.
